How was the FWQ season for you this year?
Hey how’s it goin! This year competing on the FWQ circuit was a hell of a time. I decided to give the competition season a good go of it this year, taking a pretty mellow semester of classes at Montana State University. My goals this season were to make the FWQ finals and ski the most fun lines that I could. The level of skiing that occurred in the FWQ finals was absolutely insane and I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of it. From truck camping in Canada for the Revelstoke and Kicking Horse comps with my buddies Kye and Holden, to powder hounding in Snowbird, storm skiing at Crystal, watching goats on the Big Sky inspection, and then to somehow qualifying for the World Tour at Kirkwood, it was a winter I’ll never forget.
What are you up to this summer preparing for FWT? Any exciting projects planned?
This summer I’ll be commercial fishing in Bristol Bay, AK. I’ve fished out there the past few summers on the Tonsina Bay F/V. Hopefully it’ll be another great summer of hard work catching as many sockeye as we can to pay for school and travels on the FWT next season. After the fishing season, I’ll get back to running and biking as much as I can in the mountains and get back to school at MSU.
Anyone you look up to or inspires you? Anyone you look forward to competing with on FWT?
My biggest inspiration is my dad. He’s the best. The best 78 year old skier at Alyeska. The best taco cook north of the lower 48. The best dad I could imagine to travel around with in a little camper in the bed of a tacoma from the 8th grade until my senior year of high school.
Heading onto the tour, I can’t wait to rip with the entire crew of absolutely insane skiers and snowboarders. Ripping around comps through out North America this past season with guys like Dillon, Xander, Jed and Holden Samuels was such a fun time and I can’t wait to travel across the world with those guys and the rest of the FWT family.
